Fine Silica Products for Catalyst Supports

AGC offers two families of silica products – SOLESPHERE™ and SUNSPERA™ –  for catalyst supports in the manufacture of polyethylene and polypropylene. They play a more important role than a carrier for a catalyst compound. The properties of the silica gel have a significant effect on the polymerization process and properties of the finished polymer. The pore structure, spherical shape and particle distribution of SOLESPHERE and SUNPSERA are precisely defined. Using these silicas improves the finished polymer resin by increasing the bulk density. It also ensures enhanced productivity. SOLESPHERE is typically positioned for liquid phase/slurry process and SUNSPERA is recommended for gas phase process.

SOLESPHERE is available in particle sizes from 3µm to 20µm, and SUNSPERA is available between 3µm to 100µm.  Both products have surface areas ranging between 40-800 m2/g. The ability to select the particle size, pore size, and spherical structure of this fine silica  product makes it possible to provide long lasting physiochemical-specific characteristics to specific media. Both SOLESPHERE and SUNSPERA silica are very spherical, have a very uniform pore structure, as shown to the right, and a narrow particle size distribution.
