AFLAS® Fluoroelastomer Pre-Compounds Enhance Performance of Parts Used in Harsh Oil Recovery Conditions

Productivity and safety in oil and gas recovery operations depend on the strength of equipment, parts and systems. Downtime or injuries from equipment failure are unacceptable, so machinery must be built with parts and components that will not fail in these harsh environments. Hardworking oilfield equipment parts include durable packers, bladders, seals, gaskets and O-rings.

Fabricating oilfield equipment components with fluoroelastomers makes them resistant to chemicals, oils, solvents and extreme heat. Fluoroelastomers also help extend the life of these parts, which in turn reduces downtime during critical operations.

Improving Performance

To meet the challenges of operating in these harsh environments, AGC Chemicals offers AFLAS® CP-4000, AFLAS CB-046 and CB-047, which are peroxide-curable pre-compounds in the AFLAS perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) series.

AFLAS CP-4000 is a peroxide-curable FFKM pre-compound that offers outstanding resistance to chemicals, oils, solvents and extreme heat. It also provides exceptional compression set, mechanical strength and processability. It can be compounded to be highly resistant to rapid gas decompression and has a service temperature of
280 °C, with peak exposure of 300+ °C. AFLAS CP-4000 is post-cured using nitrogen instead of air to achieve high temperature resistance and to optimize performance.

AFLAS CB-046, based on AFLAS CP-4000, is a peroxide-curable FFKM formulated pre-compound that does not require any additional filler. It offers the same superior material features and end-user benefits as CP-4000, including service temperature at 280 °C, with peak exposure of 300 °C.

AFLAS CB-047, based on AFLAS PM-3000, is a peroxide-curable FFKM full compound that does not require any additional filler. It provides a medium temperature rating from 260 °C to 280 °C.

Both CB-046 and CB-047 have chemical resistance to hydrocarbons, various oils and amines, acids and alkalis, and other caustic fluids with very low swell, even in longer-term exposures.
